In what critics are calling a “miracle of timing,” Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has dissolved his entire County Executive—an action many say should have happened “somewhere between yesterday and five years ago.”

The sweeping move has drawn both applause and raised eyebrows, with Bungoma Senator David Wakoli leading the “we told you so” parade.

Posting on Facebook, Bungoma Senator Wakoli didn’t hold back.

“The decision by H.E. Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka to dissolve the County Executive is not just bold—it is long overdue,” he wrote, in a statement that read less like praise and more like a polite reminder that the house has been on fire for a while.

“For too long, the people of Bungoma County have watched service delivery stall while complacency took root,” Wakoli added, noting that earlier warnings were dismissed as “political witch-hunts”—a phrase Kenyan politicians often use when the truth starts knocking too loudly.

Now, with the Executive sent packing, Wakoli says the spotlight shifts squarely to the governor.

Today, the truth has come out clearly—and the buck stops with the Governor himself,” he said, in what could easily double as both support and subtle pressure.

Still, the senator welcomed the decision, urging that it must not end with dramatic announcements and well-worded press releases.

Every shilling of public money must be accounted for, and anyone who misused resources must face the law,” he said, stopping just short of asking for receipts dating back to the Stone Age.

Public Reaction: ‘Better Late Than Never… But Why So Late?’

Residents reacted with a mix of relief, sarcasm, and the kind of cautious optimism Kenyans reserve for political promises.

  • Nafula Wanjala wrote: “Finally! We thought the Executive had permanent jobs like the weather.”
  • Brian Simiyu added: “Good move, but we are watching. Don’t recycle the same people with new titles.”
  • Mercy Chebet commented: “Accountability is good, but will anything really change or is this just a reshuffle with drama?”
  • Wycliffe Barasa quipped: “Dissolving the Executive is easy. Fixing Bungoma is the real exam.”
  • Alice Nandwa concluded: “We want services, not headlines. Roads, hospitals, water—start there.”

As the dust settles, Bungoma residents are left wondering whether this marks a genuine turning point—or just another episode in Kenya’s long-running political series, Reforms Are Coming: Season 47.”

For now, Wakoli is calling it a new chapter.

Whether it becomes a bestseller or another unfinished manuscript, as always, will depend on what happens next.
