NAIROBI, Kenya
A massive employment boom is on the horizon for Kenyan youth as the government makes a strategic play to turn 80 million livestock into thousands of new manufacturing jobs.
Industry PS Dr. Juma Mukhwana met with the Senate Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism on Wednesday to push for the urgent passage of the Kenya Leather Development Authority Bill, 2026.
Dr. Mukhwana emphasized that the bill provides the exact policy direction needed to transform the leather sector into a youth employment engine.
Coupled with the Geographical Indication Bill, 2026—which protects local product uniqueness to fetch premium prices globally—this legislative duo is set to overhaul Kenya’s economic landscape.
Ends.
