Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi is nursing injuries after a violent and coordinated attack by armed goons in Kisumu on Wednesday, April 8.
Reports indicate that the senator had made a routine stop in the Acacia/Westend area for a haircut before heading to a café, where he interacted with members of the public. Moments later, a group of armed youths stormed the premises, confronted him over his political stance, and brutally assaulted him.
CCTV footage circulating online reportedly shows the attackers beating, kicking, and attempting to drag him, as staff and bystanders struggled to intervene.
The attack is believed to be politically motivated, with tensions linked to his outspoken positions in ongoing political alignments.
Despite having armed security, his team exercised restraint to avoid civilian casualties during the chaos.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna confirmed the incident, revealing that Osotsi sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted to Nairobi for urgent medical attention.
Leaders across the political divide, including James Orengo, have condemned the attack, describing it as cowardly, premeditated, and a dangerous sign of rising political intolerance.
