National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula rallied over 8,000 young people from all nine constituencies of Bungoma County at his rural home on June 7, 2026, setting the stage for a massive grassroots mobilization drive ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Anchor: Civil Rights and National Development

The landmark consultative forum transformed Speaker Wetang’ula’s residence into a bustling hub of civic dialogue.

Addressing the delegation, Wetang’ula emphasized that securing a national identity card is a critical tool for economic empowerment and democratic expression.

He aggressively urged the youth to take advantage of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s fee waiver for first-time ID applications and replacements to ensure total participation in the upcoming polls.

The Megaphone: Regional Leaders Demand Unity

Bungoma Senator and majority chief whip CBS David Wafula Wakoli, alongside local Members of Parliament and MCAs heavily amplified the Speaker’s development agenda.

Senator Wakoli urged the youth to reject divisive politics, ethnic polarization and the manipulation that often leads to political violence.

The present MPs echoed these remarks, advising younger leaders to focus heavily on long-term unity strategies rather than engaging in premature, disruptive political posturing.

The Blueprint: Infrastructure and Progress
Wetang’ula detailed the transformative multi-billion transport infrastructure projects designed to directly benefit the youth through job creation and expanded regional commerce:
  • The Mau Summit–Rironi Highway: Full dualling project to improve road safety and significantly reduce traffic congestion.
  • Standard Gauge Railway (SGR): Planned strategic extension stretching all the way from Naivasha directly to Malaba.
Local leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working hand-in-hand with both national and county government structures to translate these infrastructure gains into long-term wealth, agricultural access and expanded employment options for every household in Bungoma.
Ends.
