Kenyan Gov’t announces the dates to release School Capitation and Grade 10 text books

The Ministry of Education has declared that capitation funding for schools will be made available prior to the second term’s reopening on April 27, 2026.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the release of funds is intended to guarantee seamless operations in schools throughout the nation.

According to Bitok, the ministry will give funding and textbook distribution first priority, especially for students enrolled in Grade 10.

“The distribution of Grade 10 textbooks ensures that students have the resources they need to succeed, while the release of capitation before April 27th will enable schools to operate smoothly,” he said in

To aid in the implementation of CBE routes, the government also aims to provide funding for the creation of textbooks for technical and applied topics.

Additionally, the PS disclosed that discussions over the future of junior school teachers are currently taking place with the National Treasury and the Teachers Service Commission.

This comes after local authorities voiced concerns following an Environment and Labour Relations Court verdict that contested the teachers’ present terms of employment.

To increase efficiency and guarantee that real beneficiaries are reached, Bitok said the government is also working with stakeholders and private sector participants to streamline public and privately supported scholarship programs.
