A Nairobi–Nyahururu passenger train derailed near Ol Kalou Railway Station in Nyandarua County on Tuesday evening, August 18, after two wheels of one of its coaches came off the railway track.
The incident occurred near the station and caused a scare among passengers and residents in the area. No injuries were immediately reported following the derailment, according to initial reports.
Images from the scene showed the affected passenger coach partially off the railway track near Ol Kalou Railway Station.
The circumstances that led to the derailment had not been established by the time of publication. Kenya Railways had also not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the incident in the initial reports.
The derailment comes as the Nairobi–Nyahururu passenger service operates along the route connecting Nairobi with parts of Kiambu, Nakuru and Nyandarua counties.
The affected service includes stops along the Nairobi–Nyahururu corridor, with Ol Kalou among the stations served.
Authorities are expected to assess the railway line and the affected train as investigations into the incident continue.
