President William Ruto has launched the construction and upgrading of the 20-kilometre Makaveti–Kyangala–Iiyuni Road in Machakos Town Constituency.
Ruto launched the project on yesterday, Saturday, August 22, during his tour of Machakos County.
The road project is expected to improve connectivity in the area and make it easier for residents and businesses to access nearby markets and other services.
According to The Star, the road upgrade is valued at about KSh1 billion.
The project also appears in Machakos County’s procurement records under the upgrading of the Makaveti–Kalama–Kyangala–Iiyuni Road to bitumen standards, Phase I.

Ruto inspects Kimutwa Market
During the same visit, Ruto made a stop at Kimutwa Centre in Machakos Town Constituency.
The President interacted with traders and inspected the Kimutwa Modern Market, which is among the development projects in the area.
The visit gave Ruto an opportunity to interact with local traders as he toured the constituency.
Ruto also attends Women of Faith Congress
The President’s Machakos tour also included the closing ceremony of the African Brotherhood Church Women of Faith Congress at Scott Christian University.
Thousands of women attended the event, where Ruto spoke about national development and the role of the Church in Kenya’s future.
Ruto also called on political leaders to move away from ethnic politics and focus on development.
He said Kenyans should judge leaders by their record and the plans they offer rather than ethnic mobilization and political rhetoric.
What the road project means for Machakos
The Makaveti–Kyangala–Iuni road is one of several infrastructure projects being pursued in Machakos.
For residents along the route, better road connectivity could improve access to markets, schools, health facilities and other services.
The project also comes as Machakos continues to experience growth around Machakos Town and surrounding areas.
The launch now puts attention on the project’s implementation and the pace at which construction will proceed.
