Museveni and Ruto Build Railway, Quietly Pray the East African Community Doesn’t Go Bankrupt

MALABA, Kenya
Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and William Ruto of Kenya officially launched the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Kisumu to Malaba, providing a beautiful, state-of-the-art track for trains that the region may not be able to afford.

While both leaders happily smiled for cameras to boost cross-border trade, the East African Community (EAC) legislative assembly is currently facing a massive financial crisis.

Under Museveni’s rotating chairmanship, member states have racked up tens of millions of dollars in unpaid debts, rendering regional flagship projects mathematically stagnant.
Diplomatic sources say the new SGR extension is a massive success, assuming the train can run on regional goodwill and empty promises instead of electricity.
Ends.
