The brutal scent of petrol still clings to the hospital curtains at Kenyatta National hospital, a harsh reminder of a political disagreement turned into an act of pure evil.
Looking at Joyce Wambui(not her real name),a resident of Mwiki lying in that hospital bed, wrapped in layers of white bandages, it breaks your heart to see what political intolerance can do.
Her only crime was exercising her freedom—expressing her support by tattooing President William Ruto’s photo on her chest.
For that, she was hunted down and doused in petrol.
In a statement released on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that the most serious incident occurred on May 16, 2026, in Mwiki, Kasarani Sub-county.
“A woman is currently fighting for her life at Kenyatta National Hospital after assailants reportedly doused her in petrol and set her on fire.Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was linked to the woman’s political views, which allegedly displeased her attackers. The matter is being investigated by a specialised team from the DCI Headquarters,” the NPS stated.
