Kalonzo Musyoka has urged voters in Kenya’s coastal region to reject William Ruto in the next general election, accusing the government of failed promises, economic mismanagement and human rights violations.
Speaking at a rally in Taita Taveta County, Kalonzo said the current administration “does not deserve a second chance,” citing what he described as a worsening economic situation and unmet campaign pledges.
The Wiper party leader also alleged increasing repression, claiming authorities had used police force and hired groups to disrupt opposition gatherings.
He pointed to incidents where opposition supporters were teargassed, calling it evidence of “state-instigated violence” aimed at silencing dissent.
Kalonzo further accused the government of undermining democratic processes, including claims that some Kenyans in opposition strongholds were being denied national identity cards — a move he said could limit their ability to vote.
At the Coast, he tied his message to long-standing local grievances, particularly land ownership and development.
He argued that the administration had failed to resolve the region’s squatter problem or deliver key projects such as water infrastructure, despite earlier promises.
The opposition leader also criticized what he described as inequitable sharing of revenue from national parks in coastal counties, saying residents had not benefited sufficiently from resources generated in their region.
Kalonzo’s remarks come as he positions himself within a broader opposition coalition seeking to unseat Ruto in the 2027 election, framing the contest as a referendum on governance, economic performance and civil liberties.
