Bungoma Senator David Wakoli has launched a scathing attack on Governor Ken Lusaka, accusing his administration of presiding over mismanagement of public funds while essential services collapse across the county.

Speaking during the burial of Rev. Charles Wakhisi in Kituni village, Misikhu ward, Webuye West constituency, Wakoli painted a grim picture of stalled development, deteriorating infrastructure and a leadership he claimed has shifted focus to early political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

At the center of his criticism is the reported collection of Sh52 million in cess levies, which he said has not translated into improved road conditions. “The roads remain in a pathetic state despite millions collected from the people,” Wakoli said.

He also questioned the county’s preparedness for emergencies following a fire that razed down Makhese market, noting that over Sh40 million had been budgeted for repair of firefighting equipment and ambulances. “Up to now, no answers have been given,” he said, accusing the governor of evading accountability.

Wakoli further turned his focus to Webuye Referral Hospital, saying residents continue to suffer due to lack of critical health services.

He said the governor had promised a CT scan machine and additional ambulances, but only one ambulance is currently operational.

Where has the money of the people of Bungoma gone?” Wakoli asked. “Who will the people of Webuye run to when their government is already immersed in 2027 campaigns instead of delivering services today?”

In a direct message to County Executive Committee Member for Education, Eng. Agnes Wachie, Wakoli urged her to relay his concerns to the governor.

Tell your boss to be accountable to the people of Bungoma. We are not interested in politics, but development — and better development,” he said.

Wakoli vowed to sustain pressure on the county leadership, casting himself as a defender of ordinary residents unable to demand accountability.

Not everyone in Bungoma can raise their voice. I will carry that cross for them,” he said.

The senator’s remarks are likely to intensify political tensions in Bungoma as questions mount over public spending, service delivery and the county’s development priorities.
