Kalonzo: Wetang’ula could gain ground if Ruto fires him for refusing to fold Ford Kenya

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has taken a swipe at the current challenges facing the Ford Kenya Party, which is reportedly under pressure to fold and join the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

While speaking during an interview on Hetman Manyora’s podcast, aired on Friday, March 28, 2026, the now Azimio Party leader stated that if President William Ruto proceeds to fire Ford Kenya’s party leader, Moses Wetang’ula, from his National Assembly speaker position, he would gain some ground as a result.

Kalonzo Musyoka also urged Wetang’ula, whom he believes is currently under siege, not to yield to demands from the state to fold his Ford Kenya outfit, but to stand his ground.

“If Wetang’ula is fired by Ruto for refusing to fold his FORD kenya, he will gain some ground.”

Kalonzo’s relationship with Wetangula

Kalonzo went on to state that since they are his former friends with whom he has a long working relationship, if they find their stay in Kenya Kwanza untenable and the ground is swaying toward the United Opposition, they should jump ship and join him on the opposition side.

He said he would welcome them with open hands, recalling how he and Wetang’ula, together with the late Raila Odinga, were forced to go to South Africa in 2013 to ease the pain when retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and his then deputy William Ruto were being sworn in, noting that they truly felt the elections had been bungled.

This comes at a time when Wetang’ula is facing pressure to fold his party and join UDA—something he has refused. Through his secretary general, John Chikati, Wetang’ula’s team has vowed to preserve the party, calling it an inheritance from their forefathers.

Democratic Action Party leader Eugene Wamalwa, on his side, has also advised Wetang’ula to tread carefully, saying that should his stay become untenable, he should jump ship and join DAP-K and the United Opposition.
